Vittorio Brambilla (November 11, 1937 - May 26, 2001) was an Italian racing driver, who won the 1975 Austrian Grand Prix in monsoon conditions, then most notably spun off and wrecked the car's nose while waving to the crowd.

Biography[]

Brambilla drove in Formula One between 1974 and 1980, competing in 74 races, with one win, which also turned out to be his only podium, and one pole position. Prior to F1, he was the Italian F3 champion in 1972.

Brambilla died of a heart attack while gardening at his home in Monza, not far from the circuit on May 25, 2001.

Quotes[]

"With seven laps to go, Andretti is courteously let through by tail ender Brambilla." - Harry Carpenter. BBC. 1978 Argentine Grand Prix.
