The United Arab Emirates is a smaller country on the Arabian peninsula, roughly the same size as Austria. It has the worlds seventh largest reserves of petroleum, and the 17th largest in natural gas. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia, Oman and the Persian Gulf. It is a novice nation in Formula One, having produced no or teams, but it has held the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on nine occasions, and the race is currently on the calendar.

Etihad Airways, one of the country's flag carrier airlines, has been a major sponsor in Formula One, having been sponsored the Ferrari team from 2008 to 2010 and also the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
