Sweden is a sovereign nation in the part of northern Europe known as Scandinavia. It has been moderately successful in Formula One, with 10 drivers having participated, seven scoring points and three winners. It held a Grand Prix at Scandinavian Raceway near Anderstorp from 1973 to 1978. It's most successful driver was Ronnie Peterson, who won 12 races and was second in the championship twice. When Peterson was killed at the 1978 Italian Grand Prix, and up-and-coming star Gunnar Nilsson died of cancer a few weeks later, the Swedish GP was canceled, and has never been run again.
