Formula One Career[]

In February 2014, Simona de Silvestro joined the Sauber F1 Team as an affiliated driver. The team organized her first test session at Ferrari's Fiorano Circuit on April 26 using a 2012-spec Sauber C31, allowing her to complete 112 laps. She also participated in test at the Valencia Street Circuit to help her secure an FIA Super Licence.

Sauber had planned to give de Silvestro her first outing in the modern Sauber C33 during free practice for 2014 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas. De Silvestro was working towards a drive with the team for the 2015 Formula One Season.

At the start of October, her driving duties were suspended due to contractual dispute between Sauber and de Silvestro's management regarding financing. While she briefly retained her title as affiliate driver, she was eventually dropped from the team entirely.
