Scuderia AlphaTauri was an Italian Formula One racing team and constructor, founded in 2020 and based in Faenza, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The team served as the rebranded successor to Scuderia Toro Rosso, which had competed in Formula One since 2006 as the junior outfit to Red Bull Racing. AlphaTauri was created to promote Red Bull’s fashion brand of the same name, while continuing to function as a development team for young drivers from the Red Bull Junior Team programme.
The team achieved its first victory under the AlphaTauri name at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix, with Pierre Gasly taking his maiden Formula One win. This was also the first victory for a French driver in F1 since 1996.
History[]
Origins as Scuderia Toro Rosso[]
AlphaTauri originated from Minardi, a small Italian team acquired by Red Bull in 2005. Rebranded as Scuderia Toro Rosso (“Team Red Bull” in Italian), the Faenza-based outfit served as a sister and junior team to Red Bull Racing. Toro Rosso notably secured a victory at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix, where Sebastian Vettel claimed his first Formula One win.
Rebranding to AlphaTauri (2020)[]
In late 2019, Red Bull announced that Toro Rosso would be rebranded as Scuderia AlphaTauri for the 2020 season to promote its clothing line. The team continued to operate independently in Faenza, while maintaining close technical ties with Red Bull Racing.
The rebrand was officially launched in February 2020 in Salzburg, Austria, showcasing a new livery in navy blue and white, representing the fashion brand’s identity.

2020 season[]
AlphaTauri entered its debut season with Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat as drivers. Gasly achieved a shock victory at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, holding off Carlos Sainz Jr. to win. The team finished 7th in the Constructors’ Championship with 107 points.
2021 season[]
Gasly remained with the team alongside rookie Yuki Tsunoda from Japan. Gasly achieved a podium finish with 3rd place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, while Tsunoda scored a 4th place in Abu Dhabi. The team again finished 6th in the Constructors’ standings.
2022 season[]
The team retained Gasly and Tsunoda, but struggled for pace under the new technical regulations. AlphaTauri dropped to 9th in the Constructors’ Championship, its lowest finish since 2018.
2023 season[]
With Gasly departing for Alpine, the team signed Nyck de Vries alongside Tsunoda. However, De Vries was replaced mid-season by Daniel Ricciardo, who himself was sidelined by injury and temporarily replaced by Liam Lawson. The team ended the year in 8th place.
2024 season[]
AlphaTauri rebranded to Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team for 2024, with Tsunoda and Ricciardo as drivers, marking the end of the AlphaTauri name in Formula One.
