Scott Andrew Speed (born January 24, 1983 in Manteca, California) is a United States former F1 driver, who drove for Toro Rosso in 2006 and 2007.

During the 2007 European Grand Prix, his team's principal Franz Tost assaulted him after the first turn confusion, and Scott decided that he don't want to race for the team again and was replaced by Sebastian Vettel.

He is the seventh most experienced F1 driver not to score a point. At the 2006 Australian Grand Prix, after finishing eighth from a lowly eighteenth on the grid, Scott was penalised 25 seconds, costing him his first World Championship point.

Career[]

Before Formula One[]

2006[]

In his debut race, the 2006 Bahrain Grand Prix, he finished 13th. In the Australian Grand Prix came the worst race of his career. In that race, he finished 8th from a lowly 18th on the grid, but Speed was controversially stripped of what should have been his first World Championship point, and the first for an American driver since 1993, when he overtook under yellow flags and had 25 seconds added to his race time, dropping him to 9th. Because of this, David Coulthard inherited 8th place and the World Championship point. Understandably furious at the decision, Speed also swore at Coulthard during the post-race stewards meeting and was fined $5000.

Speed retired from the Spanish, British and United States Grands Prix(in which Nick Heidfeld did a quadruple flip in USA), but finished his remaining races.

2007[]

Speed raced for Toro Rosso again for the 2007 season but was replaced by Sebastian Vettel following the European Grand Prix following an altercation with team principal Franz Tost in which Tost was alleged to have assaulted Speed, something which Tost has vehemently denied. Speed was released from his contract as a result.

After Formula One[]

He moved on to NASCAR in 2008 and stayed until 2013. In 2015 he moved to Formula E and stayed for 1 season. He now most likely races in the Americas Rallycross Championship.
