San Marino, officially the Republic of San Marino is a country enclosed by Italy. It gained independence from the Roman Empire in 301 AD.

Due to the country's small size, there are no circuits built in San Marino. Therefore, the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, one of the few circuits in Italy, was ran as the San Marino Grand Prix from 1981 to 2006.
