The Renault RS01 was a car built by Renault for the 1977 Formula One season. It was the first car to be powered by a turbocharged engine, and to be the first to use radial tyres powered by Michelin. The car would be designed by André de Cortanze and driver Jean-Pierre Jabouille.
The RS01 is one of the few classic Formula One cars that appears in the Formula One Championship Edition video game.
Competition history[]
1977[]
From its first race at the 1977 British Grand Prix, the car was chronically unreliable. It retired with a turbo, suspension, engine and alternator problem, and failed to qualify at Canada.
1978[]
The RS01 would still be unreliable next season, but at the United States Grand Prix, Renault earned its first points finish with Jabouille finishing 4th.
The RS01 in 1978 only finished 5 out of 14 times.
1979[]
The RS01 would still be used for the first few races of the 1979 season. After the 6th round it was replaced by the Renault RS10.
