The Qatar Grand Prix (Arabic: جائزة قطر الكبرى) is a Formula One motor racing event held in Qatar. It debuted on November 21 as part of the 2021 championship at the Lusail International Circuit. The race did not take place in the 2022 season due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar but returned to the calendar in 2023 with a 10-year contract. It is the fourth full-night race (as opposed to day or day-to-night races) on the Formula One calendar, following the Singapore, Bahrain and Sakhir Grands Prix.
Other than returning in 2023, they race also became a sprint race that year, meaning, that they would now be required to drive half a race Saturday, before qualifying for the main race later that day. Since the sprint was introduced on the Lusail circuit, only one drive has actually won it, and that is the McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, who won it in his rookie season (2023). He also has 2/3 sprint pole positions on the circuit, only missing out in 202 to his teammate Lando Norris.
On the other hand, one can argue that the Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen, is the one who has had most succes at the track. He has claimed P1 in 3 out of 4 of the races, and was on the podium in the last.
