Piero Taruffi was an Italian racing driver who started 18 Formula One Grands Prix in the 1950s, securing five podium finishes, and one win. Taruffi's best Drivers' Championship result came in 1952, finishing third behind Ferrari teammates, Alberto Ascari and Giuseppe Farina. As well as driving for Ferrari, Taruffi represented Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, Maserati and Vanwall during his seven-year career in F1.
Outside of F1, Taruffi achieved accolades in sports car racing, winning the 1957 Mille Miglia, and motorcycling, in which he set the motorcycle land-speed record in 1937.
Piero Taruffi died in 1988 at the age of 81 in Rome.
Taruffi's daughter, Prisca Taruffi, is a former professional motor racing driver who has competed in the FIA GT Championship and several rally events. Prisca was allowed by Ferrari to drive her father's race winning Ferrari 315-S in the 2007 Mille Miglia, 50 years after Piero's victory in the event.
