Niels Wittich (born 5 August 1972) is the FIA Formula One Race Director, Safety Delegate, Permanent Starter and head of the F1 Technical Department since the departure of Michael Masi. Like Masi, Wittich is tasked with managing the logistics of each F1 Grand Prix, inspecting cars in parc fermé before a race, enforcing FIA rules, and controlling the lights that start each race. His role was be shared with Eduardo Freitas on an alternating basis until the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix, when Freitas was forced to step down. Herbie Blash, former deputy race director under Charlie Whiting, assists Wittich in a senior advisory role.
Wittich previously held the position of race director for the DTM series.
