The Minardi PS01 was a car which Minardi competed in the 2001 Formula One season. It was driven by Tarso Marques and rookie Fernando Alonso. Mid-way through the season, Marques was replaced by Malaysian Alex Yoong.
The significance of the car's name stands for Paul Stoddart, who saved the team from folding at the end of the 2000 season. The PS01 made its début at the Australian Grand Prix, with Alonso finishing 12th on his début.
For the Hungarian Grand Prix, Minardi introduced a B-spec version of their car. Marques first used the B-spec version of the car, while Alonso had to stick on with the A-spec version of the car. From the Belgian Grand Prix onwards, both drivers used it to the end of the season.
Minardi were not classified in the Constructors' Championship, with no points. The best finish for the team was a 9th place achieved to Marques at the Brazilian and the Canadian Grand Prix.
The car was considered to be of capable design and although it undertook very little testing it proved capable in the hands of Alonso to fight among the Benetton's, Prost's and Arrows. However the car had a severe deficit in straight line speed due to its 1998 specification Ford Cosworth Zetec-R engine.
