They currently supply Mercedes GP, Force India and Williams. The McLaren partnership came to an end after the 2014 season, Lotus only did their partnership in 2015, and Manor only did their partnership in 2016 before they left Formula One prior to the 2017 season.
Mercedes engines were used in the 1954 Formula One season for the Mercedes team. This was also the case in the 1955 Formula One season, however, they would not return in 1956. They would withdraw from all motorsport as a result of an accident in the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans that killed 84 people, including Mercedes driver, Pierre Levegh.
Ilmor was founded by Mario Illien and Paul Morgan in 1983, as an independent British Formula One engine manufacturer. They initially built engines for IndyCar. They finally reached F1 in the 1991 season with Leyton House.
In 2001, co-founder Paul Morgan was killed while landing his vintage airplane at Sywell Aerodrome, Northamptonshire. Following this, Mercedes-Benz increased their share in Ilmor, initially with Daimler AG increasing their share to 55% in 2002, and in the process renaming the company Mercedes-Ilmor. In 2005, Daimler became the sole owner of Ilmor, and renamed the company Mercedes-Benz HighPerformanceEngines. In 2011, in order to accommodate the Mercedes AMG brand, the company was renamed once again to Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains.
