The Mercedes-Benz M196 was a naturally aspired, straight-8 formula one engine that was being designed, developed and built by Daimler-Benz; and was used between 1954 and 1955 Formula One season[1][2][3][4][5] . There are two version of the engine, the 2.5-litre M 196 R and the 3.0-litre M 196 S This was Mercedes last Formula One engine and they did not return to motorsport in any capacity until in 1994 where Mercedes starts to supply engine for Sauber.[6]
