The McLaren MCL34 is a car designed by McLaren that competed in the 2019 Formula One season. It was driven by new signings Carlos Sainz Jr. and rookie Lando Norris, this was their first all new driver lineup since 2007.
With then inbound technical replacement James Key on gardening leave from Torro Rosso, McLaren hired Pat Fry in a temporary capacity as technical director to design the MCL34.
Season Peformance[]
The MCL34 represented a dramatic upturn in performance for the Woking outfit, who finished 4th in the constructors as "best of the rest" ahead of rivals and engine supplier Renault. The resulting final points tally for the MCL34 was more than double what they had scored in the previous season. The team also scored their first podium finish since the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, with Sainz in third at a chaotic Brazilian Grand Prix.
