The McLaren MCL32 (originally known as the McLaren MP4-32) was a car designed by McLaren to compete in the 2017 Formula One season. It was unveiled with an orange and black livery on February 24, 2017 at Woking, Surrey, with the team's drivers being Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne, who replaced the retiring Jenson Button. Button replaced Alonso for one race, at Monaco.[1]
The MCL32 is the first car since the McLaren M30 not to contain the "MP4" prefix as a part of its chassis name, following Ron Dennis' departure from McLaren Group.
Season review
In the first pre-season testing at Barcelona, McLaren had various problems and used five engines throughout the testing due to reliability problems with their new Honda RA617H power unit.
In the first four races of the season, McLaren had a very poor start to the season, having suffered two double-retirements and two failures to start a race. This marked McLaren's worst start since 2015.
For the Monaco Grand Prix, McLaren introduced new upgrades to their chassis. It was not until at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix that McLaren scored points. At the Hungarian Grand Prix, McLaren secured a double points finish, with Alonso taking sixth and Vandoorne tenth.
