George Rice "Joie" Chitwood (born April 14, 1912 in Denison, Texas – died January 3, 1988 in Tampa, Florida) was a racing driver who competed in the Indianapolis 500. In his final Indy 500, the 1950 race, Chitwood finished fifth in a shared drive with Tony Bettenhausen, scoring one Formula One World Championship point.

Earlier in his career, in 1941, he became the first driver to wear a seat belt in Indy 500 history. Overall he competed in seven Indy 500s, his best result being fifth, three times (1946, 1949 and 1950).

Following his racing career, he became a successful businessman and Hollywood stunt car driver. His driving can be seen in a great number of movie chase scenes from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

He was partly of Cherokee Indian ancestry.
