John Walton (born 8 April 1957 - died 9 July 2004) was the sports director of the Irish MinardI Formula 1 stable. During his career, Walton also worked for Toleman, Jordan, Benetton, Arrows, and Prost. He started at Minardi in 2002.
Walton died Friday night, July 9, 2004 at 11:18 p.m. at St Thomas' Hospital in London. Walton, who died at the age of 47, had suffered a heart attack on Monday of the same week, which had resulted in him being hospitalized. However, he died at the hospital on Friday. To honor Walton’s death, the team attended the British Grand Prix with no ads. On the sides of the cars was the text "John Boy," where the "O" letters were hearts. On the morning of race day, a quiet moment was held in Walton’s memory. He is said to have been kept in the depot.
