Jehan Daruvala (born 1 October 1998) is an Indian professional racing driver currently competing in the Formula E World Championship with Maserati MSG Racing. He previously raced in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, where he secured multiple wins and podiums. A former member of the Red Bull Junior Team and Force India’s driver development program, Daruvala is one of India’s most successful junior formula drivers and is widely recognized for his role in elevating the profile of Indian motorsport internationally.
Early Life and Background[]
Jehan Daruvala was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, to a Parsi family. He began karting at the age of 10 and quickly rose to prominence in domestic circuits before transitioning to European karting. He was educated at Bombay Scottish School and later moved to the UK to pursue his racing career.
Daruvala was one of the three winners of the inaugural Force India One From a Billion Hunt in 2011, a talent search initiative aimed at finding the next Indian F1 driver. His success in this competition helped kick-start his journey into competitive motorsport abroad.
Karting Career[]
Jehan achieved significant success in European karting between 2011 and 2014. He raced for teams like Ricky Flynn Motorsport and competed in prestigious championships such as the CIK-FIA World and European Karting Championships. Notably, he finished second in the 2014 CIK-FIA KFJ World Championship and third in the WSK Super Master Series.
Junior Formula Career[]
Formula Renault 2.0 (2015–2016)[]
Daruvala moved to single-seaters in 2015, racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC and Eurocup series with Fortec Motorsports and later Josef Kaufmann Racing. He achieved consistent top-ten finishes and ended the 2016 Eurocup season in fourth place, claiming two race victories and several podiums.
FIA Formula 3 European Championship (2017–2018)[]
He stepped up to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2017 with Carlin Motorsport, where he scored one win and finished sixth in the standings. In 2018, he remained with Carlin but had a less successful campaign, finishing tenth overall.
FIA Formula 3 Championship (2019)[]
In 2019, Daruvala joined Prema Racing for the inaugural FIA Formula 3 Championship season. He won two races—at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Circuit Paul Ricard—and finished third in the championship behind teammates Robert Shwartzman and Marcus Armstrong. His strong performance attracted attention from Formula 1 junior programs.
FIA Formula 2 Championship (2020–2023)[]
2020: Carlin / Red Bull Junior Team[]
Jehan was signed by Carlin to compete in the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship and was concurrently enrolled in the Red Bull Junior Team. He became the first Indian to win an F2 race with a victory in the Sakhir Sprint Race. He finished the season 12th overall, scoring two podiums and one win.
2021: Carlin[]
Daruvala remained with Carlin for a second season and improved his performance, achieving seven podiums and a win at Monza. He finished seventh in the championship.
2022: Prema Racing[]
Jehan switched to Prema Racing in 2022 alongside Dennis Hauger. He won the Feature Race in Monza and recorded several podiums throughout the season, ultimately finishing seventh in the standings for a second consecutive year.
2023: MP Motorsport[]
In 2023, Daruvala joined MP Motorsport. Though he failed to add to his win tally, he scored points consistently and finished the season in 13th place. His tenure in Formula 2 ended at the conclusion of the 2023 season.
Formula E Career[]
2024–present: Maserati MSG Racing[]
Jehan Daruvala transitioned to Formula E in 2024, signing as a reserve and simulator driver for Mahindra Racing. In late 2024, he was signed by Maserati MSG Racing as a full-time race driver for the 2025 Formula E season, replacing Edoardo Mortara.
As of the 2025 season, Daruvala continues to compete for Maserati MSG Racing, gaining experience in electric single-seaters and scoring points finishes.
Formula One Affiliation[]
Daruvala was part of the Red Bull Junior Team from 2020 to 2022. During this time, he tested F1 cars with McLaren and Red Bull Racing, including private tests in older-generation F1 cars. Though he did not secure a race seat in Formula 1, he remained in contention for future roles and was often discussed in Indian motorsport circles as a potential F1 driver.
