Jean-Pierre Alain Jabouille (ja-BOO-ee; born 1 October 1942 in Paris, Île-de-France, France) is a French former racing driver who competed in Formula One from 1974 until 1981. Jabouille had a notable career driving for the first incarnation of the Renault team between 1977 and 1980. Jabouille competed in the first turbo charged Formula One car in 1977, Renault pioneering the move to turbo charged engines within Formula One.
Jabouille's time at Renault saw him unable to demonstrate his and the team's talent through results due to consistent reliability issues with the Renault cars. Jabouille however did manage to achieve some success taking two victories at the 1979 French Grand Prix, his home race and at the 1980 Austrian Grand Prix.
At the 1981 Canadian Grand Prix he sustained a broken leg following an accident caused by a suspension failure on his car. Jabouille, who had signed for the Ligier team for 1981 was forced to sit out the first two rounds of the new season. However following his F1 return, Jabouille appeared no longer fit for F1 following his injuries and was forced to make his retirement from Formula One following his first five races which accrued little results and two fails to qualify.
Jabouille remained with the Ligier team in 1982 in a managerial role, a position he held for a number of years with the team.
