Jean-Denis Délétraz is a Swiss former professional racing driver known for his participation in various motorsport categories, including Formula One, sports car racing, and endurance events. Born on March 8, 1963, Délétraz developed an interest in motorsport at a young age, eventually progressing through junior formulae in Europe.
Formula One Career[]
Délétraz’s Formula One career was brief and sporadic. He is best known for his role as a substitute driver in the 1994 and 1995 seasons. His most notable appearance came at the 1994 Monaco Grand Prix, where he drove for the Larrousse team. He also attempted to participate in other Grand Prix events but often failed to qualify due to the competitiveness of his machinery and limited opportunities.
Despite limited success in F1, Délétraz remains remembered for being one of the few Swiss drivers to reach Formula One during an era when Switzerland had an official ban on motor racing after the 1955 Le Mans disaster.
Sports Car and Endurance Racing[]
After his F1 ventures, Délétraz enjoyed a more extensive career in sports car and endurance racing. He competed in prestigious events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and other endurance races around the world.
His endurance racing career showcased his skill in long-distance racing and team-oriented events, frequently driving for various teams in the World Sportscar Championship and later in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
