Herbert MacKay-Fraser (born 23 June 1922 and died 14 July 1957) was a Brazilian-born American racing driver who primarily participated in sports cars and Formula Two. He made his Formula One debut in the 1957 French Grand Prix with BRM. BRM planned to enter him into more races, but he was sadly killed a Formula Two race shortly after his F1 debut.
In 1956 and 1957, MacKay-Fraser was competing in a variety of Formula Two and sports car races, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1957, he was first in class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with co-driver Jay Chamberlain driving a Lotus.
His early racing career was enough to earn him a trial run with BRM at the French Grand Prix in 1957. Although his transmission gave up after 24 laps, his performance in his debut was good enough to earn him a seat on the team and he was set to race with the team in the 1957 British Grand Prix two weeks later.[1]
However, before the British Grand Prix, he had been entered to drive a Lotus at a non-championship race at the Reims-Gueux circuit for the Coupe Internationale de Vitesse. During the race, he suffered a fatal accident.
