Helmut Niedermayr (born 29 November and died 3 April 1985) was a German racing driver. He participated in the 1952 German Grand Prix in a privately entered AFM, finishing in ninth position. He was also a runner-up in the 24 Hours of Le Mans that same year.
He began his racing career in 1949 with a Relf BMW open-wheel sports car entered by Count Karl von Horn. He later acquired the car in 1950 and continued to race it in an assortment of sports car events as well as rallies.
In 1952, Niedermayr began racing a Veritas RS in sports car races. He also began competing in Formula 2 with a Veritas Meteor, including in the non-championship 1952 Internationales ADAC Eifelrenne at the Nürburgring. He returned to the circuit a few months later to race in the Formula One German Grand Prix, finishing ninth but scoring no championship points.
A few weeks later, tragedy struck. While racing in a Formula 2 event at the Grenzlandring in Germany, Niedermayr crashed his Veritas Meteor into a crowd of spectators. The crash killed at least 13 spectators and injured 42 others. The accident led to a subsequent government ban on racing at the venue.
He eventually returned to racing and finished seventh in the non-championship 1954 Grosser Preis von Berlin at AVUS using Hans Klenk's Veritas Meteor. He also continued to race sports cars, co-founding the Berlin-based racing team Remgemeinschaft Berlin Halensee.
