The track will have the start/finish line and pits heading east along Ngo P2 Le Quang Dao (literally #2 little sharp knife). A custom section will take the cars on a sharp 135° left, then a wider 270° right, before kinking back left and right onto the main Le Quang Dao boulevard. The cars will go south on this road for about 0.8 km/0.5 miles before kinking right, then making another 270° left at the roundabout intersection with Chau Van Liem road (roughly 'my good friend') before another kink right puts the cars back on Le Quang Dao, this time heading north. This time the cars are on the straight for 1.5 km/0.9 miles, with a gentle sweep to the right in the latter third of the straight. This time the straight ends with a tight 150° left, followed soon by a 30° left, going back south on Le Quang Dao. But this straight is only about 0.4 km/0.25 miles, before a 90° right puts the cars into an artificial section comprised of a long combination of lefts and rights, reminiscent of sections of Mexico City, Circuit of the Americas and Silverstone. The lap will end with a sharp 135° left followed by an 80° left, putting them back on the pit straight.

Revision as of 19:14, 3 January 2020

The Hanoi Street Circuit (Vietnamese: Đường đua phố Hà Nội), located in Hanoi, Viet Nam, is a motor racing venue set to host the 2020 Vietnamese Grand Prix as part of the 2020 FIA Formula One World Championship.[1] Designed and developed by Hermann Tilke, the Hanoi Circuit originally measured 5.565 km/3.458 miles, but will now measure 5.607 km/3.484 miles long with 23 corners, and will be the first Vietnamese circuit to host a Formula One race.[1]

History

The idea of a Formula 1 race in Viet Nam was first explored by Bernie Ecclestone, but the number of races in the far east, and the failure of the races in India and South Korea caused Ecclestone to drop the concept.

After the demise of the Malaysian Grand Prix, new F1 owners Liberty Media reopened discussions with officials in Hanoi, exploring the possibility of a race in the capital. The contract was announced in November 2018, with Viet Nam to host at least five races, beginning in 2020.

Layout

The track is in the Nam Tu Liem district, in the western capital metro. It is adjacent to the My Dinh National Stadium, and is a hybrid street circuit and purpose built track. It was originally designed with 22 corners, but late in the planning a change was made, adding a 23rd corner just before the pit straight, in the name of safety.[2]
