The Haas VF-16 was a car built and designed by Dallara on behalf of the Haas F1 Team for the 2016 Formula One season. It was unveiled on February 21 2016 and their drivers were Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutiérrez.

From the car name, the "V" stands for vertical. Gene Haas, founder of Haas Automation, added "F1" to the name to unofficially designate it as the company's "Very First One".[1]

Season review[]

In the season opener at the Australian Grand Prix, Grosjean qualified 19th and Gutiérrez qualified 20th, both of them on the 10th row of the grid. However, Gutiérrez was hit by McLaren's Fernando Alonso on the 18th lap of the race, causing a very big crash, red-flagging the race. Romain Grosjean went on to finish sixth, the second best result of Haas' début season.

Haas' weekend at the Malaysian Grand Prix was a bad weekend. Grosjean retired from the race on lap 7 with a brake failure, while Gutiérrez's front left wheel loosened on lap 39.

Haas finished in eighth in the Constructors' Championship with 29 points. Grosjean scored all of the points, while Gutiérrez scored no points, leading to him leaving the team at the end of the season.
