The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company was founded in 1898 by Frank Seiberling in Akron, Ohio.

The company was named after Charles Goodyear, the inventor of vulcanized rubber.

Goodyear is the most successful tyre supplier in Formula One, with more starts, more wins (113 as the sole supplier), more Drivers' Championships and more Constructors' Championships than any other team.

Goodyear was the sole tyre supplier from 1987 to 1988, and again from 1992 to 1996.

In 1979 Goodyear and Michelin got into a tight battle as which tyre would have the most wins that season. It would turn out to be Goodyear, as the tyre supplier won 8 out of 15 races, with 7 being won by Michelin-supplied teams.

In 1985, 1986 and 1991, Goodyear won 15 out of 16 races:

with one race which was won by Pirelli and Brabham in 1985
with one race which was won by Pirelli and Benetton in 1986
with one race which was won by Pirelli and Benetton in 1991

Goodyear would win all races in 1997, as all were scored by Benetton, Ferrari, McLaren and Williams. In 1998, Goodyear won 7 out of 16 races, all scored by Ferrari, which the 9 of them were won by Bridgestone and McLaren.
