The Ferrari 053 was a V10 3.0L naturally-aspirated engine created by Ferrari for the 2004 Formula One Season. The engine was used in the Ferrari F2004 chassis and was also used for the first two rounds of the 2005 Formula One Season.
The engine proved to be reliable, ensuring the team would face no mechanical retirements in the season. It also performed well, helping Ferrari secure both the World Constructors' Championship and World Drivers' Championship titles. in 2004.
The engine was sold to Sauber to used in their Sauber C23 for 2004, although the team rebadged it as a Petronas 04A. Unlike previous seasons, where Ferrari provided Sauber with engines that developed for the previous season, 2004 was the first year Ferrari sold Sauber a current-spec engine.
