Eugenio Castellotti (October 10, 1930 – March 14, 1957) was an Italian racing driver renowned for his talents in both Formula One and sports car racing. Known as "Il Bello" for his striking appearance, Castellotti competed in 14 Grands Prix from 1955 to 1957 without wins, but secured three podiums, one pole position, and amassed 19.5 championship points. A rising star at Ferrari, his promising career was cut short by a fatal crash during testing.
Early Life and Career[]
Born in Lodi, Lombardy, Castellotti began racing sports cars at age 20, purchasing a Ferrari in 1950. He quickly found success with victories in events such as the Portuguese Grand Prix (1952) and the 10 Hours of Messina. His strong performances earned him a place with Lancia’s Formula One program in 1954.
