Englebert Tires was founded in Belgium in 1898. Oscar Englebert had been manufacturing rubber mats and rubberized coatings, and branched out into pneumatic tires for bicycles, cars and motorcycles. By 1912 the business was up to 400 employees, and in 1925 that number had reached 3,500. By then Englebert had become one of the top five rubber manufacturing companies.
