Emerson Fittipaldi (em-AIR-son FEE-tee-PAL-dee; born December 12, 1946, in São Paulo, Brazil) is a Brazilian racing driver who won two Formula One World Drivers' Championships in 1972 and 1974, and was also very successful racing in America, becoming a two-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 and winning the CART series in 1989.

Almost instantly promoted to lead driver of the Lotus team in 1970, Fittipaldi won the championship in 1972 with one of F1's best ever cars, the Lotus 72D. Fittipaldi joined McLaren in 1974, and won the championship that season. In 1976, he moved to his brother Wilson's Fittipaldi team, where he stayed until he exited the sport after 1980 without further success.

After retiring from F1, and largely not driving for three years, he received an offer to drive the CART series in the US. He competed in the US for another 12 years.

He is the brother of Wilson Fittipaldi, uncle of Christian Fittipaldi, and grandfather of Pietro Fittipaldi.
