Eghbal Hamidy (born 1 August 1960) is an Iran aerodynamic engineer. He was a technical director and aerodynamic expert on several F1 teams in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Profile[]

Personal data[]

Hamidy is one of the few Muslim engineers working at F1. He graduated from Imperial College in London, majoring in aeronautical engineering (S1 and S2) and dynamic vehicles for his doctoral program in the late 1980s.

Williams F1[]

Subsequently he started his career at the Williams team in 1989, as an assistant to Enrique Scalabroni and Adrian Newey. He remained in the team until the end of 1995. His best achievement was when he led Nigel Mansell (1992) and Alain Prost (1993) to become world champions. In 1996 he left for the Stewart GP team.

Stewart GP and Arrows[]

At Stewart GP, Hamidy is the chief designer. At that time, he was known as an expert in designing great cars on wet tracks, because every time there was a rainy race, Stewart GP's performance was always stunning.

Even when he left for Arrows in 1999, Hamidy's immense influence was felt on Stewart. Rubens Barrichello recorded pole in France and Johnny Herbert recorded the win at the Nurburgring.

Another on Stewart, another on Arrows. In this team led by Tom Walkinshaw, Hamidy earned the nickname as an expert in designing fast cars on low-downforce circuits. This is evidenced by the speed of Jos Verstappen in Austria 2000, Italy 2000, and finally in Austria 2001.

Jordan GP[]

In late 2000 he moved to Jordan, unfortunately his performance was less shiny and that led to him being fired at the end of 2001 and replaced by Gary Anderson. Since then his name has not been heard in Formula One.
