Edmund Patrick 'Eddie' Jordan (30 March 1948 – 20 March 2025) was an Irish former F1 team boss and former pundit at BBC Sport F1 alongside David Coulthard.
He is famous for being the Team Principal of Jordan for the team's whole existence 1991 and 2005, during which the constructor scored four wins, two from Heinz-Harald Frentzen in 1999, which resulted in Jordan's best ever result, third in the Constructors Championship.
Joining the championship in 1991 Eddie Jordan's Jordan Grand Prix team debuted in Formula 1 and gave Michael Schumacher his first opportunity in the series. Michael Schumacher's debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix that year was a significant moment for both driver and team.[1]
The 1998 Belgian Grand Prix was a historic moment for the Jordan Formula 1 team, marked by a one-two finish with Damon Hill winning and Ralf Schumacher taking second place. This victory was the team's first in Formula 1 and the only one-two finish in their history. The race was famously chaotic, with a serious first-lap accident and persistent rain throughout the event.[1]
He became a TV pundit when the BBC resumed broadcasting F1 in 2009, and had held the role until their broadcasting rights were sold to Channel 4. Jordan confirmed that he would not join Channel 4's team, instead being one of the presenters on Top Gear.[2] However, on 8 March 2016, Channel 4 announced that he would be part of their "wider presenting" team.[3]
Eddie Jordan passed away on March 20, 2025, at the age of 76 due to prostate cancer, which he had been battling for 12 months. He had revealed his diagnosis in December 2024. He was ten days shy of his 77th birthday.[4]
