David Schumacher (born 23 October 2001) is a German racing driver who has competed in various junior single-seater categories, including the FIA Formula 3 Championship and the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). He is the son of former Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher and the nephew of seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher. As a member of the famous Schumacher racing family, David has been under close observation throughout his career.

Early Life and Background[]

David Schumacher was born in Salzburg, Austria, but races under a German license. He began karting competitively in 2011 and achieved success in German and European karting championships. Initially racing under his mother’s maiden name, David Brinkmann, to avoid media attention, he later reverted to his family name as his career progressed.

Coming from a strong motorsport background, David was surrounded by racing from an early age, with both his father and uncle having enjoyed long Formula One careers. He is also a cousin of racing driver Mick Schumacher.

Junior Formula Career[]

Formula 4 (2018)[]

David Schumacher made his single-seater debut in 2018 in the ADAC Formula 4 Championship with US Racing–CHRS, a team co-owned by his father, Ralf Schumacher. He finished ninth in the championship and was the best-placed rookie, earning him the Rookie Championship title.

He also made selected appearances in the Italian F4 Championship, scoring podiums and further gaining experience.

Formula Regional European Championship (2019)[]

In 2019, Schumacher graduated to the Formula Regional European Championship with US Racing. He claimed four victories and several podiums throughout the season, finishing fourth in the overall standings.

He also made a one-off appearance in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Campos Racing at the season finale in Sochi.

FIA Formula 3 Championship (2020–2022)[]

Schumacher began racing full-time in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2020 with Charouz Racing System. After a challenging start, he switched mid-season to Carlin Buzz Racing. In 2021, he joined Trident, where he had his most competitive season, securing a maiden victory at the Sochi sprint race and helping the team win the constructors’ title.

In 2022, he raced for Charouz Racing System again, though the season proved less successful, and he eventually moved away from FIA F3 after that year.

DTM Career (2022–Present)[]

In 2022, David Schumacher transitioned to touring cars, joining DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) with Mercedes-AMG Team Winward. Despite being a rookie in a competitive field, he showed promise and continued to race with the team in subsequent seasons.

During the 2023 season, Schumacher was involved in a high-speed crash at the Nürburgring but escaped with minor injuries. He continued to gain experience in GT and touring car racing, marking a shift in his career from single-seaters to endurance and GT-based competition.

Personal Life[]

David Schumacher is the only child of Ralf Schumacher and Cora Schumacher. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in motorsport, he has often drawn comparisons with his famous relatives but has sought to forge his own path in the racing world.

Off the track, David has a notable presence on social media and is occasionally featured in German media due to his family name.
