Damon Graham Devereux Hill OBE (born 17 September 1960) is a retired Formula One driver who was the 1996 Formula One Champion, becoming the first son of a world champion to win a championship.
Hill started his Formula One career with Brabham in 1992, replacing Giovanna Amati from the fourth round and onwards until the team folded mid-way during the season. Without a drive for the remainder of 1992, Hill surprisedly got a seat at the Williams team in 1993, getting three wins and a third place in the Drivers' Championship. He was retained for the 1994 season, having a rivalry with Michael Schumacher that lasted until the end of the 1996 season, were he won the Drivers' World Championship at the 1996 Japanese Grand Prix, the final race of the season.
Despite winning the championship, he was not retained by the team for 1997 because Williams favoured German Heinz-Harald Frentzen. Being linked to Ferrari, Benetton and McLaren for a seat, he instead decided to sign for the Arrows team. Instead, the 1997 season with Arrows turned out to be uncompetitive for Hill. At the end of the season, he signed for the Jordan team in 1998, winning at the wet-weather 1998 Belgian Grand Prix. Hill announced his retirement from Formula One racing at the end of the 1999 season.
