Chuck Hulse (born 3 October 1927 and died 13 July 2020) was an American racing driver who raced in the USAC Championship Car series between 1959 and 1968. During that time, he participated in 7 Indianapolis 500 with a highest finish of 7th in 1967. He tried to qualify for the 1960 Indianapolis 500, which would have counted towards the Formula One championship, but was not successful.
Hulse began his racing career in 1949. He married the following year and began working with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, but continued racing a variety of cars. In 1957, he stopped racing to focus on his job and family, but Firestone gave him permission to race full time from 1959 onward, under the condition that he promote Firestone.
In 1964, he was involved in a crash while racing in a sprint car event. He suffered from vision problems as a result and was forced to take a two-year hiatus from racing. When he returned, he lost his job with Firestone after accepting a drive with a team running Goodyear tyres. He subsequently accepted a job with Goodyear.
At the 1968 Indianapolis 500, Hulse crashed during practice. Believing the car was too difficult to handle and unsafe, he immediately retired from racing. Driver Bob Hurt took over the car for the rest of the weekend, being left paralysed from the neck down after a crash in qualifying.
