Sainz made his début for Toro Rosso in 2015, alongside Max Verstappen, who also made his début. Starting from the 2017 United States Grand Prix, he raced for Renault.[1] He later moved to McLaren in 2019, and then Ferrari in 2021.

He is the son of double World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz.
