British Racing Partnership (BRP) was a British Formula One team that operated from 1958 to 1964. Founded by Stirling Moss's father, Alfred Moss, and his manager, Ken Gregory, BRP aimed to provide cars for Moss when he was available and to support young British drivers in their racing careers.

Team Structure and Operations[]

BRP began by running Formula Two cars for Stirling Moss and other drivers. In 1959, they expanded into Formula One, initially using a BRM car. The team was the first in Formula One to sell its identity to a sponsor, becoming "Yeoman Credit Racing" in 1959 after securing a sponsorship deal with Yeoman Credit Ltd., a hire-purchase company. This arrangement provided BRP with £40,000 to purchase equipment and £20,000 annually to operate the team.

In 1963, BRP transitioned into a constructor role, designing their own cars—the BRP-BRM—featuring a monocoque chassis and powered by BRM V8 engines. The team participated in 13 Grand Prix rounds, scoring a total of 11 championship points.

Challenges and Decline[]

Despite their innovative approach, BRP faced challenges in the competitive world of Formula One. In 1964, the team was denied membership in the Formula One Constructors Association, which effectively deprived them of start money—a significant source of income for teams at the time. This exclusion led to BRP's withdrawal from Formula One.

Legacy[]

BRP's pioneering efforts in sponsorship and their role in developing young British driving talent left a lasting impact on the sport. The team's innovative approach to team ownership and sponsorship set a precedent for future developments in Formula One. Their story is detailed in the book Formula 1's Unsung Pioneers by Ian Wagstaff, which chronicles BRP's contributions to motorsport.
