John Brian Naylor (born 24 March 1923 and died August 8 1989) was a British racing driver who occasionally raced in Formula One events as a privateer entry between 1957 and 1961. He is also the first European driver who race in the NASCAR series.
The son of a wealth motor dealer, Naylor began racing in Formula 2 using a Cooper T43 and Cooper T45 Formula 2 car. He also used this car to enter the 1957 and 1958 German Grand Prix, both of which were Formula One events open to Formula 2 entrants. He also participated in non-championship events with the car.
For 1959, Naylor formed JBW Cars with his mechanic Fred Wilkinson, with the goal of constructing a proper Formula One car. The JBW Type 1 was the first car manufactured, appearing at some non-championship races. Its design was heavily based on Cooper.
He entered the car into five championship races in 1959 and 1960 along with some non-championship events, although he mostly suffered from mechanical issues. For 1961, the chassis was redesigned to create a JBBW Type 2 that used a Climax engine instead of the Maserati used in the previous iteration.
At the end of 1961, Naylor retired from racing due to poor health and closed down JBW Cars as well.
