The Benetton B190 was the successor to the Benetton team's B189 chassis that was used throughout 1989 and the first two races of 1990. The car designed by Rory Byrne had seen significant increase in performance in regards to its aerodynamic capability. An improved suspension had also meant that it was no longer so sensitive to changes in altitude, the weak point of the Benetton B189. The car was also equipped with the new Ford Cosworth HB4 V8. Despite its improvements, the Ford engine remained 60 horsepower down on the capability of the Honda.
The B190 was also used in the first two races of the 1991 season.
