Auto Union (formally Auto Union Rennabteilung) was a racing team before World War II. It represented Auto Union AG, which was an amalgamation of four German auto manufacturers (Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer). Of those four, only the first two survive to this day. After the war, Auto Union was reborn under the Audi label, which is now part of the Volkswagen group. It maintains a subsidiary, Auto Union GmbH, which is in charge of maintaining the historical name, logos and trademarks, while managing the historical legacy.
