In 2006, when the BMW team returned to the grid, Seidl became the head of track operations. Seidl led Robert Kubica and the BMW Sauber team to a win at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix. He continued to work for BMW in various different roles after they withdrew from Formula 1 in 2009.

In 2012, Seidl managed BMW's comeback to DTM (German Touring Car). Under Seidl's guidance, BMW won the drivers' and teams' championship in it's first year back in the DTM championship.

In 2013, Porsche motorsports signed Seidl as the Director of Race Operations for the Porsche LMP1 team. The following year he was promoted to Team Principal. After a 16 year absence, Seidl led Porsche 919 LMP1 Hybrid to the 2015 Le Mans win. He eventually added two more Le Mans victories, two World Endurance Manufacturer Championships, and two FIA World Endurance Driver Championships in his time as Team Principal.

Seidl's success at Porsche caught the eye of McLaren CEO Zak Brown. On January 9, 2019, Seidl was appointed as team principal of McLaren's F1 team and he began working with the team in May 2019[1].
