FP1[]

Oscar Piastri topped the sole practice session for the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, setting the fastest lap of 1m 27.128s ahead of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.

With the Sprint format in play, drivers had just one hour to fine-tune their setups. Early on, George Russell led the timesheets before Verstappen briefly took the top spot. As soft tyres came into play, Piastri surged ahead, securing P1 before a late crash from Oliver Bearman triggered a red flag, cutting the session short.

Williams drivers Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon impressed in P4 and P5, while Isack Hadjar, Russell, Yuki Tsunoda, Kimi Antonelli, and Fernando Alonso rounded out the top 10.

Sprint Report[]

Lando Norris claimed victory in a dramatic Miami Grand Prix Sprint, securing a McLaren 1-2 finish ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri. Heavy rain before the race led to a delayed start and tricky conditions, with Charles Leclerc crashing out on his way to the grid.

Piastri initially led after overtaking polesitter Kimi Antonelli at Turn 1, but as the track dried, pit stops became crucial. Norris timed his stop perfectly, emerging ahead of Piastri just as a Safety Car was deployed following Fernando Alonso’s crash. With the race ending under caution, Norris held on for the win.

Lewis Hamilton finished third for Ferrari after an early switch to slick tires, while Alex Albon initially took fourth before post-race penalties reshuffled the order. George Russell moved up to fourth, followed by Lance Stroll, Yuki Tsunoda, Antonelli, and Pierre Gasly.

Qualifying Report[]

Q1[]

Following an eventful wet-dry Sprint at the Miami International Autodrome, the focus shifted to Qualifying, determining the grid for Sunday’s race. The session began later than planned at 16:15 local time due to weather delays in the Sprint, raising concerns over potential car damage. However, Aston Martin confirmed that Alonso's AMR25 was repaired after his crash, and Ferrari’s Leclerc was back in action after sliding into the barriers during the Sprint formation lap. Ultimately, all 20 cars hit the track on soft tires.

Albon, already dealing with a post-Sprint penalty that dropped him out of the points, faced further trouble when he was noted for a pit lane infringement—an incident under investigation. Meanwhile, Piastri set the early pace with a lap of 1m 27.307s, going nearly three-tenths faster than Verstappen. Hadjar, Russell, Antonelli, and Lawson initially held off on setting a lap time, leaving them, along with Stroll, in the drop zone.

Late Drama in Q1[]

As the minutes ticked down and lap times tumbled, Antonelli momentarily went fastest, outpacing teammate Russell, until Verstappen broke into the 1m 26s mark to lead the session. Hamilton, struggling with a lock-up, found himself in P15—dangerously close to elimination.

With Alonso improving to P14, Hamilton was pushed into the drop zone. However, the Ferrari driver responded with a strong lap to secure P8, while Tsunoda also bettered his time to take P9. Bortoleto impressed with P11, but his Sauber teammate fell short in 16th.

Hulkenberg, Alonso, Gasly, Stroll, and Bearman failed to advance.

Q2[]

Q2 kicked off with Q1’s fastest driver, Verstappen, setting the early benchmark on fresh soft tyres with a time of 1m 26.643s. However, Piastri soon delivered an impressive lap of 1m 26.269s, placing himself at the top of the timesheets, two-tenths ahead of his McLaren teammate Norris, with Antonelli securing third ahead of Verstappen.

Meanwhile, Russell found himself unexpectedly in the danger zone, struggling with grip issues compared to his teammate Antonelli. Also at risk were Ocon, Doohan, Lawson, and Hadjar, who had aborted his lap.

As the session approached its final moments, cars reemerged for their last attempts. Piastri opted to stay in the pits, while Ocon fought to break into Q3—despite a wild slide, he managed to climb to P9, pushing Hamilton into the elimination zone. Russell improved to P3, but Hadjar, Bortoleto, Doohan, and Lawson failed to better their times, sealing their exit from Q2.

Perhaps the biggest shock of the session was Hamilton’s elimination in P12, just hours after securing a promising P3 finish in the Sprint.

Knocked out: Hadjar, Hamilton, Bortoleto, Doohan, Lawson

Q3[]

Verstappen clinched pole with a blistering 1m 26.204s, overcoming a shaky start to set purple sectors. Norris threatened but lost time over the kerbs, settling for second, while Antonelli split the McLarens to take third. Piastri failed to improve and ended up fourth.

Russell secured fifth for Mercedes, followed by Williams duo Sainz and Albon in sixth and seventh. Leclerc, Ocon, and Tsunoda completed the top 10.
