Nikita Mazepin was supposed to race this season, but Haas severed ties with him and chose to bring back K-Mag. It appears this decision was made because of his family's close ties to President Putin of Russia. Russia's invasion of Ukraine provoked international calls for condemnation and boycotts of anyone and anything that could help fund Russia's invasion, which Haas catered to as they are an American-based team.
