The 2015 Italian Grand Prix (formally called the Formula 1 Gran Premio d'Italia 2015)[1] was the twelfth race of the 2015 Formula One Season. It was be held between 4 September and 6 September 2015 at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. It was the 85th running of the Italian Grand Prix.
Having taken his eleventh pole of twelve (and seventh consecutive), Lewis Hamilton won the race by twenty-five seconds, completing his second Grand Chelem having lead every lap and taken the fastest lap. Sebastian Vettel finished second for Ferrari, with Felipe Massa holding off a late charge from Williams teammate Valtteri Bottas to take the final podium place.
Hamilton's teammate at Mercedes, Nico Rosberg, suffered engine issues during qualifying, and having qualified in fourth, saw his engine blow a few laps from the finish. Kimi Räikkönen qualified second, but stalled at the start, falling to last before recovering to fifth.
Background[]
Coming into the Italian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton took a 28-point lead into Italy after winning the previous race in Belgium. While in the constructors championship, Mercedes held a 184-point lead from Ferrari in second place. Nico Hülkenberg stayed at Force India after he signed a two-year contract to run in the 2016 and 2017 season.[2]. Bottas and Massa also confirm their contracts with Williams for another year.[3] Soft and medium tyres will be used for the race.[4]
