The 1988 Ferrari season was Ferrari's 39th season as a constructor. In a McLaren-dominated season, they were the only team to beat the British constructor in a race, which came in Italy, after the death of team founder Enzo Ferrari.

The race, which was held almost a month after the death of Enzo Ferrari, proved to be an emotional affair for Ferrari. After the McLaren drivers filled the front row, they were set on having a perfect season and winning every race. However, it went the way of Ferrari. Alain Prost had retired early on in the race, and Ayrton Senna collided with Williams-Judd driver Jean-Louis Schlesser, enabling Gerhard Berger to win Ferrari's first race of the year as a fitting tribute to Enzo.
