The 1969 Daily Express International Trophy Race was a non-championship event held on March 30. Run in wet conditions, the race was won by Jack Brabham in his Brabham BT26A, ahead of Jochen Rindt in a Lotus 49B and Jackie Stewart in a Matra MS10. Stewart had qualified fastest, but set the time in the team's brand new Matra MS80, which had never been tested in the wet. So he opted to start at the back of the grid in the older MS10.
