The 44th International 500 Mile Sweepstakes was held on May 30, 1960 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race was a part of the 1960 World Drivers Championship, the final time that it would be included. The race saw a record (at the time) 29 lead changes between Rodger Ward and Jim Rathmann. Rathmann held on for the victory when Ward slowed with three laps to go, after he noticed a front tire failing.
