The 1947 French Grand Prix was the first post-war Grande Epreuve held in France. While reconstruction was still underway for the pre-war circuits in the north, a course was laid out using a motorway in the Parilly district of Lyon. Since Lyon was part of Vichy France during the war, damage to the city and infrastructure was negligible.
