The First Belgian Grand Prix (Officially I Grand Prix de Belgique) was held on June 28 at the new Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. This was the first-ever race held at Spa, and the first Belgian Grand Prix. The race was dominated by Antonio Ascari (father of later two-time World Champion Alberto Ascari), driving an Alfa Romeo. This was the elder Ascari's final race victory before suffering a fatal accident at the French Grand Prix a month later.
Second place went to opera singer and driver Giuseppe Campari, also in an Alfa, almost 22 minutes behind Ascari. There were only seven starters, just those two finished.
